Our Purpose

Heart Matters is dedicated to providing clear, accessible, and trustworthy information about heart health. Our aim is to help individuals better understand their heart, the tests and treatments they may encounter, and the steps they can take to support their overall wellbeing.

We focus on translating complex medical concepts into language that is easy to understand, while maintaining accuracy and clinical integrity. Everything we publish is designed to help patients feel more informed and more confident in their own care.

Clinical Oversight and Authorship

All content on Heart Matters is developed and reviewed by qualified medical professionals. Articles are written with a strong emphasis on clinical experience, current medical understanding, and patient communication. Where appropriate, content reflects established guidelines, research evidence, and real-world clinical practice.

Heart Matters is founded and edited by Prof. Peter Barlis, Interventional Cardiologist, who holds final editorial responsibility for all content published on the site. Editorial decisions rest solely with the Founding Editor and are made independently of any external influence.

Named contributors and members of the Editorial Advisory Board bring specialist expertise across cardiothoracic surgery, cardiac electrophysiology, cardiac imaging, nursing, and health promotion. Their involvement ensures that content across all clinical areas is informed by genuine specialist knowledge.

Our Approach to Medical Information

We recognise that medical information can sometimes feel overwhelming or unclear. Our content is designed to explain medical terms in plain language, provide context around tests, diagnoses and treatments, and support informed discussions between patients and their healthcare providers.

Heart Matters is an educational resource and does not replace individual medical advice. All content is general in nature and is not intended as a substitute for personalised clinical guidance. Readers are always encouraged to consult their own doctor or specialist regarding their personal situation — our content is designed to complement that conversation, not replace it.

Accuracy and Updates

We aim to keep all content accurate and up to date. Medical knowledge continues to evolve, and we periodically review and update articles to reflect new evidence, emerging technologies, and changes in clinical practice.

If an error is identified in published content, we will correct it promptly and note that a correction has been made. We are committed to transparency when information changes or when our understanding of a topic develops.

Independence and Integrity

Heart Matters does not carry advertising and does not accept sponsorship or payment in exchange for editorial coverage. No commercial relationship influences the content we publish. Our editorial integrity is absolute — what we publish is determined solely by what is clinically accurate and genuinely useful to patients.

Heart Matters is not affiliated with any hospital, health system, pharmaceutical company, or medical device manufacturer. The site operates as an independent patient education platform.

Artificial Intelligence

Heart Matters may use artificial intelligence tools to assist in the development of health information, including research support and content development. These tools help ensure content is clear, easy to find, and easy to understand.

All content is reviewed and approved by a qualified medical professional. AI tools do not replace editorial judgement or clinical oversight.

Tone and Communication

We believe that medical information should be delivered with clarity, empathy, and respect. Our content avoids unnecessary jargon and aims to guide readers in a calm and supportive manner — helping them feel informed and more confident in understanding their heart health.

We write for patients, not for clinicians. Our editorial standard is that every article should leave the reader feeling less anxious and better equipped for their next conversation with their doctor.

Feedback and Continuous Improvement

We value feedback from our readers. If you have suggestions, notice areas that could be improved, or would like to see specific topics covered, we welcome your input. Please contact us at info@heartmatters.com.
